Uber is the leading on-demand taxi company providing their services in approximately 65+ countries around the world. As of today, the average monthly driver’s revenue is above wage. As already a leading taxi service, Uber has decided to take it to a whole new level and is all set to introduce Uber flying taxis in 2020.
The idea behind Uber flying cars is to reduce road traffic. It is estimated that a 2hr long drive through the road can be reduced to just a 15-minute ride through the Uber air flying taxi service. Los Angeles, Sydney, Tokyo, and Mumbai are the main cities that Uber wants to focus on.

License to Fly
The main problem is the license to fly. Today, uber taxis can be driven by anyone who owns a commercial driving license, which is way easier to attain than a license to fly. To be an air taxi driver, one should follow the regulations from the aviation authorities which consist of the US Federal Aviation Safety Agency (FAA) and European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) who regulate the world’s 50% and 30% aviation activities respectively.
Battery Compatible for an Air Taxi
As uber plans flying cars, it has to consider many factors, one of them being a battery that is powerful enough to take the load of a flying car. They wanted something that could last from at least 40kms to 100kms. The main challenge was to get it refilled in a limited time.
The Performance
Uber flying cars were created to give ease of transportation to the people while still protecting the environment. Using batteries to power flying cars was a challenge. The problem? Performance. Though batteries have turned into a mainstream power source for many car brands, it is still a challenge to bring them into the flying cars industry.
Safety
Safety is always a challenge whenever a new transport is concerned. Especially when Uber is talking about making them mainstream.
How did Uber conquer them?
Flying cars by Uber wasn’t just a dream, it was a mission. As a primary partner, Uber joined hands with Aurora, who planned to build an autonomous aircraft with a safety backup pilot. It can hold two passengers or 222kg of weight. They focus on building the simplest design to make it easier for the pilot to drive the vehicle and simultaneously ensures safety.
